Description

The Marsannay “Champs Perdrix” Blanc 2024 comes from a particularly interesting site in the southern part of the appellation. Champs Perdrix is located near Couchey, close to the border with Fixin, at an altitude of around 350 meters, making it one of the higher-lying vineyards of Marsannay. The parcel is situated on a distinct slope with calcareous soils – conditions that can impart a lot of freshness and mineral tension to Chardonnay.

Galeyrand planted his Chardonnay parcel in Champs Perdrix himself in 2016, using a high-quality massal selection. This comparatively young vineyard already demonstrates his ambition: even away from the most famous sites, he aims to produce wines that clearly show their origin and are not merely defined by ripeness or oak usage.

The 2024 is fermented with natural yeasts and aged for around twelve months in barrels, with only a small portion of new oak being used. A short further aging in tank gives the wine additional calm. The result is a distinctive white Marsannay, where the high altitude and calcareous subsoil are central – precise, energetic, and with a pronounced mineral line.

Jérôme Galeyrand is one of the artisanal winemakers of the Côte de Nuits who consistently focus on individual parcels and their origin. As a career changer, he gradually built up his domaine since the early 2000s. Today, he cultivates only a few hectares and works organically in the vineyard, partly according to biodynamic principles. Small yields, careful manual labor, and restrained vinification characterize his style.

Pear, green apple and citrus peel combine with white flowers and fine stony nuances.
Vibrant and precise with juicy Chardonnay fruit, crisp acidity, and chalky tension. A delicate creaminess accompanies the mineral structure into a long, slightly saline finish.
