Cuvée X is one of Knipser's iconic red wines, and for years it has epitomized a powerful yet very precise Bordeaux style from the Pfalz region. The limestone and loess-rich soils around Laumersheim lend the wine structure, depth, and astonishing elegance despite its concentration.
The 2020 Cuvée X is particularly well-balanced. The wine appears dense and complex, yet at the same time calmly and controlled in its structure. Instead of sheer power, Knipser deliberately focuses on balance, fine tannin structure, and precise lines. It is precisely the combination of dark spice, freshness, and mineral tension that makes it significantly more exciting than many classic international cuvées.
The long aging in oak barrels is perfectly integrated, adding extra depth and texture without obscuring its origin. As a result, Cuvée X appears powerful and Burgundian-fine at the same time – with great substance, elegance, and enormous aging potential.
