Description
"Im Großen Garten" is one of Philipp Kuhn's most elegant Riesling GGs. The calcareous soils of the site give the wine a very fine, almost cool minerality and an exceptionally precise structure. Compared to more powerful Palatinate Rieslings, this GG often appears subtler, calmer and more characterized by finesse.
The 2023 vintage shows the wine to be incredibly clear and focused. The Riesling builds a lot of tension, but remains lean, straightforward and almost ethereal in its nature. Instead of loud fruit, Philipp Kuhn deliberately focuses on limestone minerality, fine spice and an elegant acid structure.
The winemaking is deliberately restrained so that the origin of the site remains uncompromisingly at the forefront. This makes the Große Gewächs very precise and Burgundy-inspired – mineral, profound and with an enormously long, salty finish.
