Among the most famous grape varieties is Sauvignon Blanc, which certainly holds its own against its French counterparts in terms of quality. But Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay – the latter known regionally as "Morillon" – also lend the region its distinctive character.
