The Zeltingen Sundial vineyard is a very steep, south-facing slope located directly behind the Moselle River at the entrance to Zeltingen. It is the steepest single vineyard in the municipality of Zeltingen and was already rated in the rarely awarded Class 1 quality category in the much-cited Prussian classification of 1868. The roots penetrate a 1-meter-thick layer of weathered "Blue Devonian" slate with a proportion of fine soil and then penetrate the underlying brittle, mineral-rich slate rock.
