Description
The Ried Pössnitzberger Kapelle I is one of the most impressive Chardonnay sites in Southern Styria. The high-altitude vineyards directly on the border with Slovenia are characterized by chalky soils, a cool climate, and significant temperature differences. This results in wines of enormous precision, mineral tension, and exceptional elegance. As a Große STK Lage (GSTK), Kapelle I stands for the highest quality of origin and great aging potential.
The 2022 vintage is particularly profound and focused. Despite its power, the Chardonnay appears calm and tightly structured, with an almost saline minerality and a very clear linearity. Aging in oak barrels adds complexity and structure without overshadowing the origin of the site.
Erwin Sabathi pursues an uncompromisingly terroir-driven style with great patience in aging. As a result, the Pössnitzberger Kapelle I displays less overt fruit and more tension, structure, and Burgundian elegance. An exceptionally precise Chardonnay with great depth and long-term development potential.
