W When people talk about the absolute pinnacle of French wine, they usually mean the Côte d'Or – The center of the Burgundy wine region between Dijon and Beaune – that is what is meant. Chardonnay is a defining grape for the white Grand Crus of Burgundy. On calcareous soils, it develops aromas of citrus, butter, hazelnut and flint , with a creamy texture and mineral depth .
