Description
The Ried Obere Ranz is one of the most exciting Sauvignon Blanc sites in Southern Styria. The high-altitude vineyards with their calcareous soils and cool microclimate give the wine an exceptionally precise and mineral style. As a 1STK site, Obere Ranz stands for clear origin character and a particularly terroir-driven signature.
The 2021 vintage produced exceptionally focused and long-lived wines. The Sauvignon Blanc appears taut and profound, yet calmly and elegantly structured. Instead of loud aromatics, Gross deliberately focuses on minerality, tension, and a fine, salty structure.
The reductive vinification underscores the origin of the site and gives the wine a modern South Styrian style with almost Burgundian elegance. As a result, Obere Ranz shows great precision, depth, and a long, complex finish with great development potential.
