The rocky terrace is a barren, harsh piece of land – the soil here is particularly poor and less weathered than on the rest of the slope, which gives the 2023 Marienburg Felsterrasse GG Riesling from Clemens Busch a unique tension and taut structure. The nose is immediately seduced by stone fruit, bergamot, fennel, and arugula, enveloped by an almost crystalline freshness, underscored by ripe grapefruit and a hint of lime zest.
On the palate, a fascinating balance unfolds between perfectly ripe, delicately spicy fruit and an almost tangible mineral salinity, derived from the grey slate soil of the terraced vineyards. The acidity is precise and vibrant, the finish long, taut, and breathtakingly clear.
