The Ried Krois is one of the cooler and higher-altitude sites in Southern Styria, lending the Gewürztraminer a surprisingly elegant and precise style. The calcareous soils and special microclimate ensure that the wine, despite its aromatic grape variety, always appears clear and finely structured. As a 1STK site, the Krois stands for distinct origin character and high quality.
The 2022 vintage is particularly balanced and calm. The Gewürztraminer appears intense and complex, yet at the same time taut and harmoniously structured. Instead of opulent richness, Maitz deliberately focuses on freshness, minerality, and balance.
The reduced winemaking process underscores the wine's elegant signature and allows the origin to take center stage. Thus, the Ried Krois presents a modern interpretation of Gewürztraminer – finely spicy, precise, and with a long, elegant finish.
