Description
The Ried Hochstermetzberg is one of the coolest and highest Riesling sites in Southern Styria. The barren limestone and slate soils, as well as the significant temperature differences between day and night, lend the wine an exceptionally precise and mineral style. As a "Grosse STK Lage" (GSTK), the Hochstermetzberg stands for uncompromising origin character and great aging potential.
The 2020 vintage produced particularly clear and profound Rieslings. The wine appears taut and focused, yet at the same time calm and complex in structure. Instead of expressive fruit, Maitz deliberately emphasizes tension, structure, and a fine, cool minerality.
The reduced winemaking approach emphasizes the site's origin and makes the Riesling appear very puristic. As a result, the Hochstermetzberg displays great elegance, saline tension, and a long, precise finish with significant development potential.
