Description
The Ried Hochstermetzberg is one of the most distinctive Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Southern Styria. The high-altitude vineyards with their limestone and slate-dominated soils produce wines with enormous precision, cool minerality, and great tension. As a Grosse STK Lage (GSTK), Hochstermetzberg stands for uncompromising origin character and exceptional aging potential.
The 2020 vintage presents itself as profound and yet incredibly focused. The wine appears taut and linear, with a fine salty tension and great mineral clarity. Instead of expressive fruit, Maitz deliberately opts for structure, elegance, and a quiet, terroir-driven style.
The reductive vinification underscores the origin of the site and lends the Sauvignon Blanc a very purist signature. As a result, the Hochstermetzberg shows great precision, depth, and a long, complex finish with great development potential.
