Description
The Kastanienbusch is one of the most spectacular Riesling sites in the Palatinate. The steep slopes around Birkweiler with their red slate and colorful sandstone soils give the wine a striking mineral depth and an unmistakably spicy, almost smoky style. Dr. Wehrheim interprets the site with great precision and rather cool elegance than with pure power.
In 2024, the Grosses Gewächs is incredibly clear and focused. The Riesling appears taut and vibrant, yet also profound and calmly structured. Instead of opulent fruit, the Kastanienbusch clearly focuses on salty minerality, fine herbal spice, and enormous tension on the palate.
The vinification remains deliberately understated, so that the origin is uncompromisingly at the forefront. This makes the GG appear very puristic and terroir-driven – mineral, precise, with a long, powerful finish and great aging potential.
