Description
"Schwarze Mauritius" is one of FJ Gritsch's most distinctive Grüner Veltliner selections. The wine comes from selected terraced vineyards in the Wachau with barren primary rock soils and is deliberately interpreted as somewhat more powerful and profound. The name refers to the dark, stony soils that give the wine its distinctive mineral character.
The 2023 vintage shows a lot of tension and structure, but at the same time a surprisingly delicate elegance. Instead of prominent fruit, the focus here is on spice, minerality, and a dense texture. The wine appears concentrated, yet remains precise and linear.
Typical for FJ Gritsch is the very clear, reduced vinification, which emphasizes origin and vintage. This gives the "Schwarze Mauritius" an almost cool, salty character with a long finish and great aging potential.
