Description
The Ried Kalkofen is one of the cooler and most mineral Riesling sites around Spitz. Lean primary rock soil, steep terraces and the fresh air currents from the Spitzer Graben ensure a particularly precise and taut style here.
In 2024, the Kalkofen shows a lot of clarity and tension. The wine appears focused and straightforward, with a fine stony minerality and that typically cool Wachau elegance. Instead of opulence, precision and length are more in the foreground here.
FJ Gritsch cultivates the Riesling in a very puristic way, which ensures that the origin of the site remains clearly recognizable. The result is a mineral, elegant Wachau Riesling with a lot of drive and long development potential.
