Description
The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the most legendary Riesling vineyards on the Mosel and stands for a unique combination of elegance, slate minerality and almost weightless depth. The extremely steep, blue slate slopes around Wehlen produce wines that are characterized less by power than by precision, tension and finesse. Selbach-Oster interprets the site in a very classic, terroir-driven way.
The 2021 vintage shows the Grosses Gewächs to be incredibly clear and vibrant. The cool vintage brings with it razor-sharp precision and enormous freshness, making the Riesling seem almost ethereal. Instead of ripe fruit, the Wehlener Sonnenuhr clearly focuses on herbal spice, salty minerality and a very fine, linear structure. With aeration, the wine develops additional calm and impressive depth.
The vinification remains deliberately understated and puristic, so that the origin is uncompromisingly at the forefront. As a result, the GG shows a very classic Mosel style – mineral, elegant and with a long, vibrant finish and exceptional aging potential.
