Description
The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is one of the Mosel's most famous and powerful Riesling vineyards. The extremely steep slate slopes around Zeltingen impart an intense mineral tension to the wine, while its special exposure provides great depth and pressure. Compared to the more delicate Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr often appears a bit spicier and more structured.
The 2023 Grosses Gewächs is incredibly precise and full of energy. The Riesling seems taut and vibrant, but with aeration, it develops enormous calm and complexity. Instead of opulent fruit, Selbach-Oster deliberately focuses on slate minerality, fine herbal spice, and a salty, almost ethereal tension. It is precisely this balance of power and elegance that makes the wine so impressive.
The vinification remains deliberately classic and puristic, so that the origin is uncompromisingly at the forefront. As a result, the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr GG displays a very terroir-driven Mosel style: profound, mineral, with a long, vibrant finish and great aging potential.
